Provide really bright light or even direct sunlight, otherwise the leaves may lose their patterns. Ideally west or south facing windows.
When watering your plant, these bromeliads have a “cup” in the center of the plant which catches & stores water in nature. They have roots but they are there mainly to anchor these epiphytes onto trees/plants, in this case into soil. Keep the cup about 1/4 of the way full of water, and every other month dump that water and fill it with fish new water to avoid bacteria growing in that cup. Also water the soil once its almost dry all the way. It is best to use soft water, like distilled or rain water.
Non-toxic to pets, every plant is unique; the one you get may vary from the one in the photo.
