Aechmea ‘Del Mar’
Place by west or south facing windows. Keeping the plant in temperatures above 60 F. Native to Brazil. The inflorescence has many berry-like flowers of vivid cobalt blue and hot pink (see example in the last photo)
When watering your plant, these bromeliads have a “cup” in the center of the plant which catches & stores water in nature. They have roots but they are there mainly to anchor these epiphytes onto trees/plants, in this case into soil. Keep the cup about 1/4 of the way full of water, and every other week dump that water and fill it with fresh new water to avoid bacteria growing in that cup. Also water the soil once its almost dry all the way.
In winter or if you keep you plant in low light, keep less water in the cup, allowing the cup to dry out entirely before adding more water is recommended.
Non-toxic to pets, every plant is unique; the one you get may vary from the one in the photo.
